What If You’re in Between Interior Design Styles? Blending Interior Design Styles.

Most people don’t fit neatly into just one interior design style — and that’s actually a strength!
Blending interior design styles is where the magic happens. Your unique mix is what makes your home feel personal and timeless.
As a designer, one of my favourite parts of working with clients in Toronto and the GTA is helping them see those overlaps and create a space that feels intentional instead of pieced together. Here are a few common style pairings I often guide clients through:

• Traditional + Transitional
If you love Traditional elegance but crave a fresher, lighter feel, Transitional is the bridge. Think timeless silhouettes with simplified details and neutral palettes. My role is to edit carefully, so the space feels classic without being heavy.
• Modern + Contemporary
Modern gives structure with its mid-century roots, while Contemporary keeps things current and flexible. The blend? A home that feels both timeless and trend-forward. This is a mix I guide clients toward when they want longevity with a nod to the now.
• Mid-Century Modern + Contemporary
Mid-Century adds warmth and iconic shapes, Contemporary keeps it sleek and trend-aware. The mix is a stylish nod to the past with a fresh, modern finish. I help clients embrace this combo when they want retro charm without feeling dated.
• Farmhouse + Coastal
Rustic charm meets breezy calm. Farmhouse layers in warmth and history, while Coastal brings light, airy palettes. Together, they create comfort with a fresh outlook. I often help clients find the right balance so it feels intentional rather than themed.
• Boho + Eclectic
Boho thrives on colour and global inspiration, Eclectic on contrast and personality. Combined, you get a curated, artistic home that feels vibrant but intentional. With my clients, I make sure the layering is edited enough to stay beautiful, not busy.
• Industrial + Modern Farmhouse
Industrial leans urban with exposed brick and steel, while Modern Farmhouse softens it with wood, textiles, and vintage accents. Together, it feels grounded and welcoming. This pairing is especially popular in the GTA’s newer builds, where I can bring character back into the architecture.
• Scandinavian + Minimalist
Both love clean lines and simplicity, but Scandinavian adds warmth with cozy textures and pale woods. Together, you get serenity with a softer, more livable touch. I often help clients balance these two so their homes feel calm yet welcoming.
• Coastal + Scandinavian
Both love bright, airy spaces. Coastal brings in sandy neutrals and ocean blues, while Scandinavian adds practicality and coziness. Together: fresh, calm, and functional. My role here is to make sure the space stays airy, not cold.
So how do I feel about blending interior design styles?
The truth? Being “in between” often creates the most interesting, personal homes. If you’re struggling to blend your favourite styles, that’s exactly where I can help. At Ldesigns Interiors, I guide clients in Toronto, Oakville, Etobicoke, and across the GTA through the process of uncovering their style — and weaving it into a home that feels authentically you.
